| What is Cellulite? |

| What causes the appearance of Cellulite? |
| It is believed that the fat cells are trapped between layers of scar tissue and small blood vessels and fluid between-the-cells. The skin is tethered down by string-like tissues that pull it inward, toward the interior of the body. The tension of these strings pulls sections of fat along with them. Cellulite has been compared with the dimples in a mattress which are created by the strings that hold down portions of the mattress cushion materials. | What is the underlying cause of Cellulite? |
| Since much of the medical community denies the phenomenon of cellulite, not much medical research has evaluated the difference between the subcutaneous fat layers of women versus men. As a result, there are only speculative explanations. Studies have shown that scar-tissue cells (fibrocytes) often have estrogen-receptors, meaning that estrogen will stimulate them in some manner. Possibly higher levels of estrogen beneath the skin cause increased scar-tissue cells to create dimpled-appearance to the skin.
