Meridia

Is Meridia Safe?
Although Meridia has been safely taken by many patients, we at Dr. Marlowe's Weight Loss Institute feel that the results of the latest large study suggest that the risks outweigh the benefits. Prior to 2010, Meridia had been extensively studied throughout the world for weight loss. Meridia had been studied in more than 100 clinical trials involving more than 12,000 patients. Approximately 14,000,000 patients in more than 75 countries have used sibutramine since Meridia was approved. January 25th, 2010, the European Union banned Meridia due to the SCOUT data which showed a 16% rise in the risk of heart attack and stroke for patients with a history of cardiovascular disease who took Meridia. The FDA has decided to change the warning label for the medication, but leave it available for the U.S. market. Although Meridia may be safe for many people, we now believe there are safer choices.
